Leading sports journalists from a record number of countries around the world voted to select the nominees for the 2009 Laureus World Sports Awards. When the ballot closed, a total of 837 members of the Laureus Media Selection Panel from 112 countries had cast their votes. The winners of this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards, as voted by the members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, will receive their Awards individually at a series of presentations during May and June. Dates and venues for these events will be announced in due course. Members of the Laureus World Sports Academy are available from time to time for comment on the nominees and eventual winners.
