Sport has the capacity to captivate millions of people around the world, but does it have the power to do more? Can sport save lives and change society for the better? In July 2008, Laureus hosted our first ever Global Foundation Project Leaders Forum that brought together individuals from across Laureus' key global projects for a three-day planning workshop to determine how best the Foundation can begin supporting its projects in way that go beyond just funding.

This booklet briefly outlines some of the outcomes from these discussions and in particular looks at the essential ingredients needed for a successful sport for development programme. In addition we seek to highlight some of the gaps and challenges faced in understanding the impact of sport on individuals and communities and ensuring quality delivery on the ground.

How does taking part in a Laureus funded project have an impact on individuals’ behaviour and emotional wellbeing? The Royal Holloway team collected data from different Laureus Sport for Good projects and have published their general findings as a part of this research study.
