Research Studies
| Breaking the Cycle of Violence |
Written in collaboration with the research agency Substance, the report draws on research and project experience gained by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation over the past ten years, and articulates how sports initiatives can be designed to meet the challenge of urban youth violence.
It demonstrates that sporting activities aimed at gang members will be most successful if they work with the existing hierarchies of the gang, involve peer mentors who are realistic role models, and ensure that the project is firmly rooted within the local community. |
| Sport as a Catalyst for Social Change |
How does taking part in a Laureus funded project have an impact on individuals’ behaviour and emotional wellbeing? The Royal Holloway team collected data from different Laureus Sport for Good projects and have published their general findings as a part of this research study. |
| Global Project Leaders Forum 2008 |
In July 2008, Laureus hosted our first ever Global Foundation Project Leaders Forum that brought together individuals from across Laureus' key global projects for a three-day planning workshop to determine how best the Foundation can begin supporting its projects in way that go beyond just funding. This booklet briefly outlines some of the outcomes from these discussions and in particular looks at the essential ingredients needed for a successful sport for development programme. In addition we seek to highlight some of the gaps and challenges faced in understanding the impact of sport on individuals and communities and ensuring quality delivery on the ground. |
