Nominee 2008 - Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability

Brazil’s Daniel Dias set the pool on fire at the Rio 2007 Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in August, becoming the athlete with most victories at the competition with eight gold medals out of the eight events in which he participated.  Aged 19, he  swims in classes S5, SM5 and SB4.  He holds world records in 200 metres medley, 200 metres freestyle and 4x50 metres medley relay.  He is in demand throughout Brazil to speak about disability sport and greatly encourages other young people.
