Winner of last year’s Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, Yelena Isinbayeva continued to dominate the pole vault event in 2007, winning the World Championship gold medal in Osaka.  At the age of 25 she is seen as the best female pole vaulter in history. She has already been a seven-time major champion - Olympic, World outdoor and indoor and European outdoor and indoor. In 2007 she broke the world indoor record in Donetsk, clearing 4.93 metres.  It was her 20th world record.
