Laureus Ambassador and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 driver Nico Rosberg had a double win this weekend, securing the title at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg but also raising funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
Throughout the 2015 season, Mercedes-Benz will donate 100 euros for every kilometre Rosberg leads through the #DriveForGood campaign. After a strong start in Austria, Rosberg eased clear of his rivals and led for 67 laps of the 71-lap race, raising €29,000 for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
Rosberg has raised considerable funds through the #DriveForGood campaign so far this season, with race wins in Spain, Monaco and now Austria and a total of 647 km led in 2015. The German is now hoping to continue his fine form by adding to the amount raised in the final 11 races of the season, starting with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 5.
Commenting on his achievements in Austria, Nico Rosberg said:
"In addition to my win it was also a great weekend for the Laureus family. I'm a proud Ambassador and happy that we raised so much money this weekend for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Thank you very much Mercedes-Benz. I hope I will be able to collect many more leading laps in Silverstone in two weeks."
The funds raised by Rosberg will go directly to the work the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which uses the power of sport to address the social problems of children and young people around the world. The Foundation is currently promoting more than 150 community sports projects – a number which is continually rising. Donations in excess of €60 million have been generated since the Foundation was established in 2000 and worldwide these funds have benefited millions of young people.
