Winners of the Laureus Media Prize 2013 honoured in Austria

Laureus sport superstars were in Kitzbuhel, Austria last night to celebrate the ninth edition of the Laureus Media Prize.
Celebrating journalism, initiatives and individuals who have made a special contribution to the sport for good movement championed by Laureus, the prizes are contested annually within Germany and Austria.
Dr. Jens Thiemer , Laureus Executive Director and President Brand Communications Mercedes -Benz Cars, said: "The job of the media is crucial to the success of Laureus and in particular the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. It can focus the attention of the public on our mission that sport has the power to change the world."

Spirit of Laureus (TV): SPORT1
Spirit of Laureus (Online): Netzathleten
Social Sports Project Award: Freestyle Kassel
Social Media (Photo): Lucas Klein
Social Media (Video): Amadei Weiland
The Freestyle Kassel project is aimed at socially disadvantaged children and young people 6-24 years and provides , among other things, access to football , basketball, handball, table tennis and fitness boxing.
Laureus Germany also awarded two honorary awards . The prize for the largest commitment to Laureus was won by Laureus Academy Member Franz Beckenbauer, awarded by DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach for his - together with Mercedes-Benz -initiated action "soccer shoes for Rio."
The second honorary award went to COLORFUL editor in chief Patricia Riekel in recognition of many years’ commitment to the "Tribute to Bambi" Foundation.
Judges for the awards included Laureus Academy Members and Ambassadors Franz Beckenbauer , Verena Bentele , Ole Bischof , Fredi Bobic, Sabine Christiansen, Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Jens Lehmann and Axel Schulz .
A total of around 300 invited guests attended the awards ceremony at the Grand Tirolia including Franz Beckenbauer , Verena Bentele , Ole Bischof , Stefan Blocher , Fredi Bobic, Martin Braxenthaler , Sabine Christiansen, Jan Frodeno , Uschi Glas , Felix Gottwald, Christa Kinshofer , Franz Klammer , Wladimir Klitschko , Jens Lehmann, Wolfgang Niersbach , Patricia Riekel , Axel Schulz and Michael Teuber. For the musical highlight of the evening saw the Irish singer , songwriter and guitarist Ryan Sheridan.
The previous night held the first Laureus Sport for Good Night Austria, a charity fundraising gala, at which a total €160,500 was raised.
This secures the long-term support of the Laureus projects " Snow Tiger" in Vienna and "Sports Fans" in Salzburg along with the expansion of other Laureus Foundation work in Austria.
