Project overview
La Cava is one of the largest and poorest slums in Buenos Aires. There is a prevalence of crime, drugs, alcohol, violence and firearms use
Unión y Amistad de San Isidro works to promote good values, provide heath education and to encourage young people in the area to remain in the education system. A fundamental part of the project is building a sense of community for all the stakeholders taking part. The main objective is for participants to learn, live and convey values whist taking control of their lives.
How we achieve these goals
The project works toward making a long term impact among the participating communities by tackling deep rooted social problems with positive alternatives. The programme offers football training for boys and hockey and handball training for girls. This is then followed up with sessions with trained coordinators who deal with the social, health, educational and family problems of the participants. Workshops also include conflict resolution and mediation in the community. The activity is endorsed by local sports stars and specialists from the public and private sector.
