Shaun White marched through the 2008 season taking podiums across the world, claiming snowboarding's highest honours with victories at Winter X Games Superpipe, as well as bronze in the Slopestyle. Executing a near-flawless second run, he also captured his third consecutive halfpipe title at the 2008 US Open Snowboarding Championships to go along with his third US Open slopestyle competition He has been a notable competitor in professional snowboarding since he was 13, but is also known for his skateboarding. He's the only athlete to win Golds at both the winter and summer editions of X Games. White was recently recognised by GQ Magazine as one of their Men of the Year. He was born with a congenital heart defect for which he needed two open-heart operations as a baby.
It is little wonder that the incomparable Shaun White has won the ESPY award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete four years in a row. He began the year with yet another gold medal at the Winter X Games, in the men’s Superpipe. It was his fourth straight win in Superpipe, a record in any Winter X Games event, and gave him a remarkable total of 11 golds in Winter X. His winning run saw White throw the first double McTwist 1260 since his victory lap in the Olympics. The run earned him a 97.33 - an identical score to his winning run last year and tied for the highest score in Winter X Games history. In his summer sport, skateboarding, he won X Games gold in Vert. No matter what season, White nails every trick.
