The Alex Foundation, an organization whose main objective is to promote projects related to sport and integration of people with disabilities, has launched a project in partnership with Fundación Laureus España. ‘For our Heroes’ is an initiative which has the main objective of promoting sports groups at risk of social exclusion.
In Spain there are a large number of non-profit organisations working to socially integrate people with physical or intellectual disabilities. Many of these use sport as a tool for integration, instilling values such as teamwork or self-improvement. In many cases these organisations carry out their activities with very limited resources in areas that often lack proper conditioning.
“For our Heroes" seeks to highlight the actual conditions in which these activities take place and aims to pay tribute to those who participate in sporting activities. Since this project began in 2008, about 3,520 children have been able to benefit.
Masfurroll Gabriel, President of Alex Foundation, said:  "The idea is that through the aid can be put into operation more and better sports and turning points are created in these realities mean an immediate improvement and also be maintained over time. They are designed to support change realities of athletes with disabilities in group.”
The process of submitting applications begins this May and will remain open until the end of October. Foundation Alex verify the validity of all applications and forwarding to the jury, which will consist of representatives of Alex Foundation, Laureus Foundation and other partners, representatives of people with disabilities, athletes, members of civil society that have excelled in their social and professional work and media representatives.
