Laureus Ambassador Edwin van der Sar, the former Dutch goalkeeping star, believes Brazil are firm favourites to emerge victorious at their home World Cup this summer.

Talking to Laureus.com, van der Sar believes the weather could help the Brazilian team and others from outside Europe in pursuit of victory.
He said: “Brazil are clear favourites because of the weather, the humidity, the warmth, the expectation from the people.  I think it will be very hard for an outsider, or maybe a European team, to get to the final and try to win it.  I think Brazil will win for the sixth time.”
But when it comes to the best player at the tournament, he is confident it will be his “friend” Cristiano Ronaldo.
“[The best player will be] my friend Cristiano Ronaldo. I played a couple times against him in 2006 and 2008.  We always lost and I think it is fair to say that Ronnie could well be top scorer.”
The Dutch ‘keeper remains a legend at Manchester United where he played at the end of his career. And turning his attention to their new manager Louis van Gaal, he said: “He is a very hard?working coach and he is a guy who makes players better. He has credentials in Holland, in Spain, in Germany and the national team, so yes; there is a history of winning trophies and bringing players through and working with big players.”
