By Chris Paul in New Orleans at the All Star Weekend
This year’s All Star weekend will be a very special one for me. I’m honored to be named the newest Laureus Ambassador and to be here in New Orleans makes it really special. I played here for six years for the Hornets. Even though my current team has taken me over to the west coast, this city still means a lot to me, and it always will.
This makes it even more exciting that I’ve recovered from injury in time to play. Being back, playing in front of the fans in New Orleans, reminds me how lucky I am to be a part of this sport I love so much.
I will never forget how much of my success today I owe to my family and the fact that they supported me as I grew up and continue to support me and my wife and children today. Most important of all, I’m thinking of my grandfather. He taught me the values that have made me who I am today.  Not everyone is lucky enough to have that person and this is why I am so passionate about giving back to young people who might be in need of someone to guide them through tough times.
It’s this kind of work I’m so excited about taking on as I become a Laureus Ambassador.
Sports are one of the most powerful tools we have to help young people become well-rounded adults. It helps teach values of fair-play, teamwork, compassion and, of course, friendship.
Laureus is doing awesome work changing the lives of today’s youth through sports. As the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation expands in the US, I hope I can add something unique to the mission both here and across the world.
