Laureus Star Dinner: A unique and inspiring evening

dutch_story
The annual Laureus Star Dinner, organized by Laureus the Netherlands, took place over the weekend in the Mercedes-Benz the Netherlands Headquarters in Utrecht. After a very successful first edition of the charity dinner in April 2014, the guests were offered a fantastic night once again. Apart from the exclusive auction items, of which a few were offered by the Global Partners of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen, the guests were treated with a dinner provided by Maison van den Boer and thrilling entertainment. The mission and work of Laureus the Netherlands was presented by Chairman Prince Pieter-Christiaan and the ambassadors.
The guests were offered a varied evening program. Antje Monteiro and her daughter Romy provided a musical performance. Tegla Loroupe, a recently appointed Laureus Academy Member was a special guest for the evening and talked about the power of sport and the overall work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Moreover, Prince Pieter-Christiaan zoomed in on the projects that Laureus the Netherlands supports. Host of the evening, Tom van ‘t Hek made sure the event ran smoothly, contributing to a great atmosphere in the room.
Athletics legend Tegla Loroupe said “It is of great importance that we support the message SPORT FOR GOOD, by sharing what we stand for on evenings like these. Our projects are the living proof of SPORT FOR GOOD and we thank tonight’s guests for their support, so that we are able to continue and expand these projects. I am very happy that I can support Laureus the Netherlands on a voluntary base tonight.”
Just like last year, the auction was an important part of the Laureus Star Dinner. Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen,as well as special guests and former boxing champion Esther Schouten, who visited the Laureus Ladies Run project on March 5, offered exclusive and special auction items. Auction master Jop Ubbens, normally active at auction house Christie’s, arranged for a successful and entertaining auction.
Among the items was an IWC Schaffhausen Portofino Midsize watch, a VIP package for the Grand Prix of Germany and two flights and accomodation for the famous Dunhill Links in Scotland. The funds raised at the Laureus Star Dinner will go to Laureus the Netherlands and will also be spent on the expanding, improving and supporting new and current projects.
“Just like last year I was confronted with a few of the guests who were all very positive. The message of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is a very good and positive message that is clearly heared by the people present at the Laureus Star Dinner. We make sure that this message is sent during these kind of events, so that we are able to keep expanding and improving our projects.” said Laureus Ambassador Pieter van den Hoogenband.
Prince Pieter-Christiaan was very happy with the second edition of the Laureus Star Dinner: “Evenings like these offer us the proof that a lot of people, with our special guests Maurits Hendriks, Hans van Breukelen, Jochem Uytdehaage and Denny Landzaat among them, support Laureus the Netherlands and its mission. Next to the very important financial support, our foundation also grows because of this moral support and I am very grateful for this."
