Magic Bus Sports Programme

Project overview

Magic Bus supports more than 370,000 children in India – targeting girls at risk of early marriage, violence, and school exclusion, and youth marginalised due to poverty and caste discrimination. Combining mentoring with an activity based curriculum that includes football, cricket and kabbadi, Magic Bus supports the average participant for more than 10 years. Powered by 8,000 volunteers, including many former beneficiaries, its work extends to local communities, supporting parents and schools in developing the social and emotional learning of its beneficiaries.

Independent evaluation of its work has proven that Magic Bus children dramatically improve attendance and behaviour at school – 98.5% of adolescent girls attending the programme go to school – and increase good practice in hygiene and sexual health. Since 2003, Laureus Sport for Good has helped Magic Bus scale to a number of new territories, including Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
