Spirit of Soccer - Laos

Project overview

There were more than 580,000 bombing missions on Laos between 1964 and 1973 - equivalent to one bombing mission every eight minutes, 24 hours a day, for nine years. Over two million tons of ordnance was dropped on the country, with up to 30 per cent failing to explode as designed. Further more, 30% of cluster munition remained live after the war ended.

As a country so heavily affected by unexploded ordinance, all 17 provinces of Laos remain contaminated to this day. Spirit of Soccer bring their innovative football programme to the country training local coaches to deliver a curriculum that uses football to ensure future generations of Laotian youth are landmine aware.
