Project overview

Colombia has the second highest number of child victims of landmines in the world. In 1997, Colombia signed the Mine Ban Treaty and set the goal to become mine-free in 2021. It has become an international and national chase to make this goal a reality.

31 out of 32 departments in the country are classified as mine-contaminated and in Colombia one-third of landmine victims are children.

While Colombia pushes towards being mine-free, Spirit of Soccer have been pioneering their unique programme that upskills local coaches in a football curriculum to educate children and increase landmine awareness. In Partnership with Find A Better Way, founded by Laureus Academy Member Sir Bobby Charlton, Spirit of Soccer are reaching over 3,000 youth and training 30 coaches each year.
