September 2018 Friends First, Rivals Second

Ty Koehn’s sportsmanship during a Minnesota high school baseball game in June has brought praise throughout the world of sport. Pitcher Ty struck out his childhood friend, Jack Kocon, who was playing for Totino-Grace Eagles. The pitch won the game for Koehn's Mounds View High School team and his fellow players ran onto the field to celebrate the win, which took them to the state championships. Instead of joining in, however, Koehn walked over to Kocon, and gave him a big hug. They had played together in little leagues and although they had gone to separate schools had remained close friends. Koehn said: “Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated.”
