Inspirational marathon runner Nathan Rae combined sport and technology to honour the victims of the bomb attack at Manchester Arena in May 2017, in which 22 people lost their lives. Nathan, a filmmaker who has been running ultra-marathons for two years, mapped out a route in the shape of a heart, with the letters ‘MCR’ in the centre. Nathan’s route took in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, fire stations, and finally Manchester Arena.

Nathan completed the run on the one-year anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing, raising funds to support the efforts of North West Air Ambulance. The 37-year-old ran through the streets of Manchester for more than 18 hours, and he had the support of members of the public every step of the way. “A nurse came out to meet me at the children’s hospital,” said Nathan. “A little boy and his dad waited for me by Brooklands tram stop. He was only five, and he ran to the end of the street with me.”
