The Old Man of Hoy is one of the most famous landmarks in the British Isles. Standing off the coast of Orkney, the 450ft (140m) sea stack, formed of red sandstone, has been a magnet for climbers for generations. This year an eight-year-old boy, Edward Mills, has become the youngest person ever to climb the Old Man, and he did it to raise money for the Climbers Against Cancer charity as his late mother, Bekki Christian, suffered from terminal breast cancer. With his coaches Ben West and Cailean Harker, the talented young climber took the record from previous holder Ollie Buckle, who was ten. It took Edward nearly five hours to reach the top, where he wrote his name in the book which is kept there and wrote a personal message.
