After winning gold at the 1996 Olympic Games, Steve Redgrave famously said that if anyone caught him near a boat again, they could shoot him. So perhaps it was something of a surprise when he announced he was aiming for Sydney in 2000. What is less of a surprise was that he won a fifth consecutive gold medal, ensuring his place in the pantheon of great British Olympians.
