Paula Radcliffe was unfortunate to miss the World Championship in Paris because of injury but her year was dominated by triumphs on the road. In February she broke the 10km world record in San Juan and then in April, broke the world marathon record when she won the Flora London Marathon in 2hrs 15.25mins.
After missing Paris, Radcliffe returned to break the 5km world record in London, won the BUPA Great North Run in 65.40mins - the fastest time for a half-marathon - and then won the World Half-Marathon Championship in Portugal.
