Carolina Kluft proved herself the heroine of Sweden as she won the heptathlon gold medal in the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg - a performance which confirmed her undisputed position as the No.1 multi-discipline female athlete in the world.
Her achievement followed gold medal winning performances in the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2003 World Championships in Paris and the 2002 European Championships in Munich.
She has now been ranked No.1 in the world since September 2002 and is one of the few athletes to hold all five international titles at the same time – Olympic, World Outdoor and Indoor and Continental (European) Outdoor and Indoor.
