At 18, an accident during the 1988 Junior Tour of Ireland cut short Darren Kenny’s cycling career.  He began racing again in cycling for persons with a disability in 2000 and won two gold medals and a silver at the Athens 2004 Paralympics.  He has continued to dominate his event and this year has won 25 races.
Among his successes in 2007 have been two gold and two bronze medals in the World Championships, three gold medals in the Australian Championships and three gold medals in the Grand Prix of Wales.  He also won the Paracycling Criterium in France and was a member of the team which won the gold medal in the Visa World Cup sprint.
