Dutch wheelchair tennis player Esther Vergeer enjoyed another outstanding season on the NEC Tour in 2010. Her victory in the NEC Masters in Amsterdam in November was her 103rd straight singles tournament victory and stretched her remarkable unbeaten singles record to 401 matches, making her the greatest wheelchair tennis player of all time and arguably the most dominant current player in any sport. Her unbeaten run now dates back eight years to January 2003.
Esther made her seasonal debut at Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the year, and if anything proved more dominant than ever, dropping just four games as she won her fourth French title. A month later she eased to her tenth British Open Super Series title, then dropped just seven games en route to winning her ninth US Open USTA Wheelchair Championship Super Series title, which was followed by victory at the US Open in New York. Her only defeat of the year was in the doubles final at Roland Garros.
