Brilliant Canadian Paralympic skier Lauren Woolstencroft crowned a remarkable career by winning five gold medals in front of her home crowd at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
She showed she is as dominant in Paralympic Alpine skiing as the incomparable Lindsey Vonn is in non-disabled skiing.
Her five gold medals – in the Downhill, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super G and Super Combined - are a record for any Canadian Winter Paralympian and made her the most decorated female athlete at a single Paralympic Winter Games. Such was her dominance that she won the Super Combined by more than 12 seconds.
She made a significant contribution to a historic result for the Canadian Paralympic ski team, which won 13 of the host nation’s 18 medals.
Born missing both legs below the knees and her left arm below the elbow, she began skiing at the age of four and began competitive skiing at the age of 14, with prosthetic limbs. The drive and perseverance that Lauren showed as a child to take up skiing helped to push her to a golden career.
