One of the leading wheelchair racers of his generation, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug, aged 27, won five gold medals and one silver at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon in the T54 wheelchair racing class. After a disappointing London Paralympics in 2012, when he only won two silver medals, Hug produced an impressive comeback performance, in the absence of main rival David Weir, to dominate in Lyon. In addition he also won the New York City Marathon, dramatically beating South Africa’s Ernst Van Dyk by less than a second.
