After a poor 2013 when she did not win an event, Stephanie Gilmore showed she is the queen of the surf by coming back to win her sixth World Surfing Championship. Gilmore opened the year with a win on the Gold Coast then in September won at Lower Trestles and in Portugal to take the lead over rivals Sally Fitzgibbons, Carissa Moore and Tyler Wright.
She is now just one title behind Australian great and Laureus Ambassador Layne Beachley and, at just 26, must have a good chance to catch her.
