Outstanding Austrian Alpine skier Anna Fenninger had a hugely successful World Championships in Beaver Creek, winning gold in Super G and Giant Slalom and silver in Downhill. She then took her brilliant form into the World Cup where, in a dramatic climax to the season, she overtook her greatest rival Tina Maze to win the final race at Meribel to secure her second straight Overall and Giant Slalom World Cups.On January 19 she had trailed Maze by 361 points, but ultimately ended winning by just 22 points in one of the most exciting finishes to the season ever.
