The Overall World Cup champion of 2007 and 2009 and Olympic Super-G gold medallist in 2010 missed the entire World Cup season in 2015 with an Achilles tendon injury. But he returned at the start of 2016 and had a remarkable seven World Cup victories in less than two months – four in Downhill and three in Super-G - before he damaged a knee in Kitzbuhel which ended his season. He finished the year second in Downhill, third in Super-G and fifth in the Overall standings.
