Nominee 2008 - Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year

The amazing Mexican once again dominated golf, and has now fully inherited the crown of the great Annika Sorenstam as World No 1. Despite an influx of talented young golfers from the Far East, Ochoa won seven events in 2008, including the Kraft Nabisco major championship, and she was almost $1m ahead of her nearest challenger on the money list. In November 2008, she hosted a new LPGA event, the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, at her home course, Guadalajara Country Club, with proceeds going to support the Lorena Ochoa Foundation charity which helps disadvantaged young people in Guadalajara.
