Charity match raises €100,000 for Laureus Germany/Austria
The incredible total of €100,000 has been raised for life-changing Laureus projects in Germany and Austria following a charity football match in Heidenheim.
German football teams 1.FC Heidenheim and VfB Stuttgart went up against each other on Saturday as part of their annual pre-season training.
The final score was 2-4, with Bundesliga side Stuttgart outclassing 1.FC Heidenheim, who last year won promotion to the German second division Bundesliga 2 league.
After the final whistle in Heidenheim’s Voith-Arena stadium, which holds a capacity 13,000 spectators, a donation cheque of €100,000 was awarded from SPORT1 to Laureus Ambassador and VfB sporting director Fredi Bobic.
"I am very pleased to accept this generous donation on behalf of Laureus. So that we can move much more and support our social sports projects in the long term and sustainable," said Fredi Bobic, who has been an Ambassador since 2012 for Laureus.
Together with former boxer and fellow Laureus Ambassador Axel Schulz, Bobic is patron of the Laureus-supported street football project "KICKFORMORE”.
And on the day before the charity match, Bobic visited the project to see how the funds being raised will be supporting a truly inspiring project.
Bobic said: "The project participants have launched ??a street football tournament for more than 100 young people with the help of the project manager and I was very impressed by the commitment and dedication the kids have shown. This project will help them set goals, take responsibility and make decisions. [It] was a great success and the young people can be proud of themselves and their performance. "
