Laureus news catch-up: Find out what went on this January

With the heady mix of turkey, cranberry sauce and mince pies still fresh in our bellies, everyone at Laureus was excited to be back in the office to start the year afresh this January.
And with so much to look forward to in the world of Laureus over the next 12 months, hopefully you’ll enjoy hearing about it too!
2013 kicked off in real style.
The build up to the Laureus World Sports Awards continued with the announcement of the Action Sportsperson of the Year Nominees. In the running this year are Stephanie Gilmore, Philip Koster, Jamie Bestwick, Julie Bresset and Felix Baumgartner. Let us know in the comments here who you want to win!
Laureus was proud to announce three of the world’s greatest synchronised swimmers as Ambassadors this month, too. London 2012 gold medal winners Elvira Khasyanova, Daria Korobova and Anzhelika Timanina have joined the Laureus family, and look forward to championing the sport for good movement and the benefits of sport for young people in need.
Just a few weeks later, top Premier League coach Andre Villas-Boas was also named a Laureus Ambassador. He helped launch a new Laureus report that showed an incredible 80% of young people at youth sports projects are less likely to get involved in gangs. Keeping on the subject of Laureus Ambassadors, one of our great supporters, Michael Vaughan, his going on a UK-wide bike wide to raise funds fior the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Chance to Shine initiative. It will take place in September this year and he wants people to join him. So head here to find out how.
