Poverty is at the heart of most social issues in the Caribbean, with recent UN data showing that Grenada has an extreme poverty rate of 38%, which is one of the highest incidences of any country in the Caribbean. The UN also reports that Grenada has one of the highest unemployment rates in the Caribbean at around 25%, which peaks to around 25% amongst poor people in the country and is also particularly high amongst young people and in rural areas.
The Jason Roberts Foundation is working with disadvantaged young people who suffer from homelessness, poverty and unemployment, and with those on the outskirts of society with little access to mainstream state structures. The project delivers sports, personal development, training and social action projects to promote social inclusion and community cohesion.
