Magic Bus India

Magic Bus supports over 370,000 children in India targeting girls at risk of early marriage, violence, and school exclusion, and youth marginalised due to poverty and caste discrimination.

The current programme focuses on using sport (specifically football, cricket and kabaddi) as a tool to engage with and build on core life skills of children aged 7-14, thus ensuring that they enroll and attend school regularly and have higher probabilities of completing secondary school. This is done through an engaging and joyful learning process enabling their holistic development, keeping in mind the recommendations of the UN Global Education First Initiative.

Independent evaluation of Magic Bus has proven that participants dramatically improve attendance and behaviour at school – 98.5% of adolescent girls attending the programme go to school – and increase good practice in health.

Since 2003, Laureus has supported scaling to new territories, including Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
