The Sustainable Institute

The Lynedoch Boys to Men programme is a local community intervention program, using sport as a vehicle for social change. Boys to Men runs as part of the soccer programme hosted by the Sustainability Institute (SI), a non-profit trust committed to having a transformative impact on the lives of the children and youth in the Lynedoch Valley through the educational programmes we offer.

In the Boys to Men programme, we work through sports to create a safe space to address the tough socio-economics challenges our children and youth face. We aim to change the mindsets and willingness of our children and youth to try new things and see opportunities from a wider perspective. Run by the community, for the community, we believe strongly in the value of accountability, and building a strong sense of identity and belonging, to build the social character and strength of our community to work together to make positive changes. We believe by that by people investing in the emotional and educational needs of our youth, we can make a difference.
Aspects of the programme include educational and skills development workshops, including themes such as character building, accountability, responsibility and alcohol and physical abuse, as well as one-on-one mentoring. We draw strongly on educational hikes, wilderness therapy and experiential camps as part of the programme.
