MIFUMI

Founded in 2004, MIFUMI is a women’s rights NGO working to end violence against women and girls that arise from socio-cultural practices.

According to the 2016 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey, up to 22% of women and girls between the ages of 15 and 49 had experienced some form of sexual violence. Although violence against women is enshrined in the law, there are still many women and girls that are affected by VAWG within urban and rural settings.

Founded in 2004, MIFUMI is a women’s rights NGO working to end violence against women and girls that arise from socio-cultural practices. The organisation works with partners and communities to increase support and enable effective promotion of the rights of women and girls. It adopts an integrated community development approach to development, centering on the issues of bride price as a social driver of violence against women.
The Sure Start program engages adolescent girls in leadership through sports, gender and rights awareness education. Sure Start actively challenges the oppression girls feel from subordination to gender norms which prevent them from exercising their full potential. It aims to build the leadership potential of girls by building their confidence and agency and creating opportunities for girls to participate and make decisions in private and public spaces.
