Children and young people in Vietnam face a number of disadvantages - poverty, ethnicity, gender and location – that create barriers that prevent young people from reaching their full potential. Access to positive learning opportunities, particularly those that utilise non-mainstream pedagogical practices, are difficult to access given restrictions within the formal education system. 

Pass It Back’s baseline data shows that negative attitudes and practices around gender persist, challenging equitable development in Vietnam. The data also highlights a concerning gap between the aspirations and actions of young people in participating communities, and that 31% of players do not feel empowered to make decisions about their futures.  

The ChildFund Pass It Back model sees children learn important life skills through rugby and have opportunities to participate in activities as part of teams, which positively impact resilience to disadvantages in several ways.
