Slum Soccer

Slum Soccer is tackling the root causes of poverty, giving youth life skills and vocational skills in order to break the cycles of poverty.

Chennai is home to nearly 6% of India’s homeless population. In spite of a Supreme Court order stating that every city with a population of more than 500,000 should have one-night shelter per 10,000 people, only one shelter exists in the entire city.

Slum Soccer is tackling the root causes of poverty, giving youth life skills and vocational skills in order to break the cycles of poverty. Expanding on a well-established base in Nagpur, India, Slum Soccer is taking on social issues which affect the entire state of Tamil Nadu with their growing presence in Chennai. In Nagpur, Slum Soccer provides education classes in maths and English, in addition to football. In Chennai, football is used as a platform through which to teach life skills to participants.
