Over 300 triathletes raced in Milan last weekend at a charity event that didn’t cost a single penny to stage.
A team effort between public and private bodies ensured that the ambitious sporting event could be held at no cost, helping further add to the fundraising total that stood at over €15,000 at the end of the event.
The money raised will go towards funding a new project called Midnight Basketball that will reach out to 300 children in Milan’s Fourth Quarter.
The triathlon was held in four areas of Milan and included 320 participants, 82 volunteers and nine Olympic athletes. These included Michael Ferrarin the world champion paratriathlete, triathletes Alessandro Fabian, Anna Maria Mazzetti and Daniel Fontana. Also present was Laureus Academy Member and motorcycle legend Giacomo Agostini.
The event incorporated several classifications for differernt triathlon abilitties, as well as youth classifications and a paratriathlon.
The triathlon was a true celebration of sport, and a brilliant example of public and private organisations working together to promote social change.
