The first Laureus Star Dinner took place on April 11, with the incredible amount of €200,000 being raised to support the Laureus Foundation Netherlands.
Laureus Global Partners Mercedes - Benz and IWC Schaffhausen, along with Project Partner ABN AMRO, supported the event held at the headquarters of Mercedes - Benz Netherlands in Utrecht where those attending enjoyed an insight into the work of Laureus using sport for development.
Laureus Netherlands Chairman Prince Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje presented hockey star Teun de Nooijer as a new Ambassador for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
Teun joins fellow Dutch Ambassadors Yvonne van Gennip, Esther Vergeer, Pieter van den Hoogenband and Edwin van der Sar in helping spread the Laureus Sport for Good message across the world.
Also present was windsurf legend and Laureus Academy Member Robby Naish, who visited a local Laureus-supported project the following day.
Helping raise the €200,000 for Laureus projects in the Netherlands was an auction of unique sporting items. These included the new IWC Schaffhausen Laureus Edition watch, a unique golf package at St Andrews , a VIP Formula 1 package in Abu Dhabi and participation at the AMG Driving Experience in Portugal.
Piano greats Michiel Borstlap and young talent Yingshan Hu stunned the audience with their music on a night that will stand as a great success for Laureus in the Netherlands.
