Luciana

Aymar

Record-setting hockey star Luciana Aymar is widely regarded as the greatest hockey player of all time, and is the only player to receive the FIH Player of the Year Award eight times.

Luciana is a national sporting hero in Argentina. Her ability to beat opponents, using her pace and dribbling skills, led to her being compared to charismatic Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona.
Known as ‘La Maga’ (The Magician), because of her flair and exciting play, she was the youngest player to make her debut for the Argentina senior team when she was just 16.
Over the years, with her as the inspiration, Argentina have won hockey World Cups in 2002 and 2010, six Champions Trophies between 2001 to 2014 and four Olympic medals – silver in 2000 and 2012 and bronze in 2004 and 2008.
As a tribute to her contribution over many years, she was the flag bearer for Argentina at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2008, she was named a Legend of Hockey by the International Hockey Federation. She played her last game for Argentina in December 2014.
Luciana started playing at seven for Club Atlético Fisherton in her native Rosario. She moved to Jockey Club de Rosario six years later. She also played for Quilmes Atlético Club and GEBA, where she won La Liga Nacional and the Torneo Metropolitano. Internationally she played for the Rot Weiss Köln in Germany and Real Club de Barcelona in Spain.
