Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf has signed up for his new team by becoming a board member of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation the Netherlands.

The four-time Champions League winner was in action straight away launching a Laureus-supported training programme for young girls and their mums.

The Laureus Ladies Run encourages mothers and daughters from disadvantaged backgrounds to take part in a six-month fitness programme which prepares them to compete in the Almere City Run next June.

The programme also offers social workshops to help them get jobs and teach them how to cope with physical and sexual abuse.
Clarence, who enjoyed Champions League success with Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan and played 87 times for Holland, is now a highly successful player for Botafogo in the Brazilian League.
He said: “I am happy to join the Laureus Family today. I am looking forward to continuing my efforts to make the world a better place.”
The day before the visit, Laureus leaders from six different European countries gathered in Amsterdam for a workshop on child protection, staged with the support of the Youth in Action programme of the European Union.
