English cricket legend Andrew Strauss has been announced as a Laureus Ambassador, joining a global movement that uses the power of sport to change lives.
The announcement was made during Andrew’s participation in the Laureus Hong Kong Golf Invitational at The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, and followed Andrew’s delivery of a cricket workshop alongside his fellow Laureus Ambassador Yuvraj Singh at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.
After making his test debut for England in 2004, Strauss became the only English batsman to score two centuries in an unforgettable Ashes victory over Australia in 2005, and was named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year as a result. In 2009, he was appointed as captain of the England team, and proceeded to join a select group of three players who have won the Ashes both at home and away. Under his stewardship, England were ranked the top Test team in the world.
After his retirement from cricket in 2012 he returned to the sport in a new role as as Director of Cricket at The England and Wales Cricket Board in 2015. Strauss was an essential part of the winning side at the ICC World Cup at Lord’s in 2019, showing his capabilities both on and off the pitch. Strauss was awarded an MBE in 2005, followed by an OBE in 2011 and in 2019 he became Sir Andrew Strauss when he was knighted for his services to charity, sport and cricket.

New Laureus Ambassador Andrew Strauss: “It’s an honour for me to join Laureus as an Ambassador here in Hong Kong at a prestigious venue, The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. I’ve been fortunate to participate in a number of Laureus events in recent years, each raising funds to help Sport for Good reach more young people here in Asia and around the world.
“It was a joy to spend time with the young cricketers at Hong Kong Cricket Club yesterday. Nelson Mandela’s words that ‘sport has the power to change the world’ continue to ring true in the projects Laureus supports here in Hong Kong and around the world, and I’m proud to support that mission in my new role with Laureus.”
