Cricket legends bring Sport for Good to life ahead of Hong Kong Golf Invitational

Two legends of world cricket have joined forces with local Hong Kong cricketers to inspire the next generation of talent.
Laureus Ambassador and legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh teamed up with former England captain Andrew Strauss, and Hong Kong cricket stars Skhawat Ali and Natural Yip to deliver a community cricket clinic at The Hong Kong Cricket Club. The young Hong Kong and migrant cricketers who attended the clinic received group coaching and advice in a session that embodied the Sport for Good mission.
The clinic took place the day before the fourth Laureus Hong Kong Golf Invitational, held again this year at The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club. The event, a popular feature for local and international players, which also brings together Laureus Ambassadors and charity partners, is a team competition on one of Asia’s most beautiful golf courses, followed by a gala dinner and auction raising money for Laureus Sport for Good programmes.

Singh and Strauss both have a long-standing relationship with Laureus. In 2017, Yuvraj Singh was inducted as the first Indian Laureus Ambassador at a Laureus Sport for Good event in Mumbai. After winning the 2011 Cricket World Cup with India, Singh was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer but made an inspirational return to the game less than two years later.
Andrew Strauss, a two-time Ashes winner and former England director of cricket, has been involved with several Laureus Sport for Good fundraising projects and events, including the Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic and the 2024 Laureus Challenge, during which he and his fellow athletes trekked for 100km across South Africa.
Laureus and Cricket Hong Kong, China are teaming up to start the week’s cricket festivities ahead of The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2025 this weekend. By uniting Laureus Academy Members and Ambassadors, local organisations and dedicated partners, Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong is creating a powerful network that uses sport to address social challenges and provide young people with opportunities for health, confidence, and resilience. Laureus Sport for Good currently supports over 300 global programmes that promote youth development, education and wellbeing.

Laureus Ambassador Yuvraj Singh, said: “Cricket gave me so many opportunities in life, and I’m privileged to be here in Hong Kong, sharing its impact with these young people in my role as a Laureus Ambassador. The clinic is about more than just refining technique: it’s about building confidence, creating friendships and, most importantly, having fun and enjoying sport. Throughout my career, I’ve seen that sport has the ability to unite people, and I’m proud to be able to share that message with the next generation.”
Andrew Strauss, said: “Cricket presents educational opportunities that hugely benefit young people. Through cricket, you learn about resilience and teamwork, with the respect and camaraderie that team sports cultivate. Hosting this clinic with Yuvraj is a tremendous honour and I’m delighted to be here in Hong Kong to inspire the next generation of young cricketers.”
