The Great Britain athletics team lit up the European Championships earlier this month, and Laureus Academy Chairman Edwin Moses thinks it could well put them in line for a Laureus Award Nomination.
Speaking exclusively to Laureus.com, Moses said: “The performance of the team was outstanding, I was surprised by how much was achieved, pleasantly surprised of course. This really proves that Britain are pushing forward on the track, and is encouraging for the future.”
The British team were challenged only by France in the final medal winners table, and Moses, who won two Olympic gold medals during his career, believes their success will be an important stepping stone on the way to Olympic success.
“There’s certainly a difference between European and Olympic success, but by winning 23 medals, including 12 golds, the British team have made a statement. They will be wanting to edge nearer the Americans and Jamaicans now.”
“What can’t be underestimated is how impressive the team performance was. I think a Laureus Nomination for Team of the Year is a possibility now.”
What do you think? Which teams have done enough in 2014 to win a Laureus Award Nomination?
