Laureus Academy Member Beckenbauer honoured by FIFA

Laureus Academy Member Franz Beckenbauer was honoured for his services to football last night with the prestigious FIFA Presidential Award.

Beckenbauer received his award at FIFA’s annual gala ceremony from Sepp Blatter, the head of football’s world governing body, who said the Germany World Cup Winner was: “An extraordinary character, whose list of achievements is so long I don’t have time to list them all now. He has given his heart and soul to football.”

Also being announced on the night was FIFA’s world team of the year and the winner of the Ballon d’Or, which for a fourth consecutive time went to Lionel Messi of Argentina and Barcelona.

Can he follow this up with the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award for which he is nominated?
