Munich, September 23, 2012
The very first Laureus Sport for Good Weekend has been held in Munich, celebrating an incredible €1.5m total being raised for Laureus projects in Germany/Austria across the year.
The weekend of September 21-22, which included a sports camp, a celebrity golf tournament and an evening of auctions to help raise funds, kicked off by bringing a group of Laureus Ambassadors together with some very special  project guests.
At the sports camp in Munich’s Olympic Park, youngsters from the move&do, KidSwing, Kicking Girls and KICKFORMORE projects met Laureus Ambassadors Martin Braxenthaler, Christa Kinshofer and Jens Lehmann.
It was a great opportunity for the Ambassadors to learn from the kids themselves about the work they do at their projects.
And it was a particularly rewarding day for former footballer, the Arsenal legend, Jens Lehmann, who was meeting youngsters from the Kicking Girls project where he has recently become patron.
Jens said: I became the patron of the project last week and am very happy to meet the girls in person now. As a former professional footballer the project is obviously very close to my heart and I hope to get my passion for football across to them.”
Later that night Laureus Academy Members Franz Beckenbauer and Boris Becker, joined Laureus Ambassadors Verena Bentele, Ole Bischof, Stefan Blöcher, Sabine Christiansen, Franz Klammer, Wladimir Klitschko and Michael Teuber at the Sport for Good auction night to raise funds for the foundation.
Following the final day’s golf tournament, Harald Schuff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Sales Germany and Chairman of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Germany, said: "We are very pleased that the first Laureus Sport for Good Weekend has recieved such a positive response. For me, I am so pleased about the donation success we’ve had. This will really help promote social sports projects for children and young people. I hope our guests will carry on the great spirit of the event, so that next year we will see an even greater support for our projects."
