Morgan Freeman to host Laureus World Sports Awards

Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman, star of much loved films like Million Dollar Baby, Driving Miss Daisy, Street Smart, Unforgiven, The Shawshank Redemption and The Dark Knight, is to host the 2013 Laureus World Sports Awards in Rio de Janeiro. In another of his highly successful films, Invictus, he famously played Nelson Mandela, Patron of Laureus.
Sports lover Freeman won the Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Million Dollar Baby. In 1990 he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in Driving Miss Daisy. He also received an Academy Award nomination in 1987 for Best Supporting Actor for Street Smart and in 1994 for Best Actor for The Shawshank Redemption. He was highly acclaimed for his TV series, Emmy Award winning Through the Wormhole series on the Science Channel, for which he was producer and narrator. 
Golden Globe-nominated and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actress, producer, businesswoman and philanthropist Eva Longoria, star of globally popular TV series Desperate Housewives and Executive Producer of NBC’s upcoming Ready for Love and Lifetime’s Devious Maids, is to join him on stage as a Segment Host.
Freeman’s upcoming projects include Summit Entertainment’s heist film Now You See Me, Universal Pictures sci-fi action movie Oblivion, CBS Films comedy Last Vegas, Millenium Films’ action thriller Olympus Has Fallen, Kazuaki Kiriya's action adventure film The Last Knights, and he will be lending his voice to Warner Brothers live-action/animated LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, based on the popular children’s toy.
Among other stars of stage and screen who will be attending and presenting Awards are Brazilian-American actress Morena Baccarin, who stars as Jessica Brody in the highly successful TV drama Homeland, Maggie Cheung, first Asian actress to win a prize at the Cannes Film Festival and Golden Globe winner Kyle MacLachlan, who has appeared in cult films Blue Velvet, Dune, Showgirls and The Doors and TV series Desperate Housewives, Sex and the City and Twin Peaks. World-famous music sensation CeeLo Green will entertain the star-studded audience.
