Mercedes-Benz and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation brought together a selection of the greats of Springbok and All Black rugby in Pretoria for a breakfast ahead of last Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test between these two teams, which was won by the All Blacks.
Springbok Rugby World Cup winners John Smit and Butch James were joined by All Blacks Justin Marshall and Jeff Wilson, renowned rugby commentator Grant Nisbett and former Springbok captain and Chairman of Laureus South Africa Morné du Plessis at the Mercedes-Benz Lifestyle Centre Menlyn.
SuperSport presenter and rugby commentator Matt Pearce facilitated a fascinating panel discussion around the historic rivalry between the Springboks and the All Blacks as well as the upcoming Rugby World Cup and the continued work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and YES programme in helping change the lives of underprivileged children.
The guests and media were treated to stories from some of the great Tests between these two teams as well as the individual players’ Rugby World Cup highlights and all of their thoughts on the teams and players to watch at this year’s tournament.
“We thank our New Zealand friends and respected opponents for taking the time to be with us and support the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and also Mercedes-Benz as the partner of our South African chapter. We have 15 Laureus projects, the most of any country in the world, thanks to this support from our sponsors,” said Du Plessis.
