RUN FOR GOOD: A unique global initiative from Laureus Netherlands
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Netherlands launched a unique initiative on the day of the Berlin Marathon last weekend.
Laureus Netherlands chairman Prince Pieter-Christiaan van Oranje who participated himself in the race, has launched RUN FOR GOOD, an initiative that offers package tours all over the world to take part in famous marathons as well as visiting Laureus supported projects. At the same time, RUN FOR GOOD will raise money for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to help fund Laureus supported projects in the Netherlands.
Last Friday, Prince Pieter-Christiaan visited the KICK im boxring project in Berlin. This project uses boxing as a tool to inspire, motivate and challenge underprivileged young people, with a focus on values such as punctuality, discipline and respect.
Two days later, Prince Pieter-Christiaan took part in the famous Berlin Marathon. Not only did he run an impressive 42 kilometres in less than three and half hours, but more importantly his participation drew attention to RUN FOR GOOD. "We have developed something unique: marathon participants around the world can really come into contact with the work of our Foundation" said Prince Pieter-Christiaan after the race.
Anyone interested in RUN FOR GOOD can look forward to high-profile events such as the TCS New York Marathon, the Maratona do Rio and the Two Oceans Marathon in South Africa, and of course they can also experience a Laureus project visit in the city where the marathon takes place.
Since its inception, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has raised more than €60 million for projects which have helped improve the lives of millions young people. Laureus currently supports more than 150 projects in 34 countries.
