Swiss Cycling legend and Laureus Ambassador Fabian Cancellara has helped raise funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation at the ‘Laureus For Cycle Good’ event in Zug, Switzerland. As well as donating the entry fee for the 80km ride, Fabian Cancellara also auctioned off his own personal TREK bikes, culminating in a 42,850 Franc donation.
Raising funds for the Laureus Metro Sports by Blind Spot project, Cancellara invited fellow athletes and amateur cyclists to participate in the ride. Among many other Participants, Cancellara was joined by fellow Laureus ambassadors Ariella Kaeslin, Thomas Frischknecht, the Paralympic participants Edith Wolf-Hunkeler and Sara Tretolaand singer Baschi.
Fabian Cancellara said: "The proceeds of this event, which now annually is to take place, will all be donated to Laureus Metro Sports by Blind Spot. I have received children with impairment especially on Heart. It cannot be that they are marginalized in the sport. "
Laureus Metro Sports by Blind Spot, brings together young people with and without disabilities, through participating in sporting activities together. It also breaks down barriers and provides an important contribution to inclusion in social interaction.
The Laureus Foundation Switzerland funded the project in full. The initiator and an implementing agency is Blind Spot, the national funding organization for children and youth with and without disabilities. Both are committed to a society built on the foundations of equality and inclusion.
The Laureus Foundation Switzerland puts sport at the centre and allows children in Switzerland better future. The focus of interest is the promotion of movement, health and Integration socially, economically or physically disadvantaged young people. Sport is not only the ideal instrument to convey self-confidence, self-esteem and social skills, but also helps young People also stay healthy.
